Glucerna is a reduced-carbohydrate, modified-fat, fiber-containing formula designed to enhance blood glucose response in people with abnormal glucose tolerance when used as a nutritional component of therapy in patients prone to elevated blood glucose levels. It provides only 34.3% of total calories as carbohydrate. The unique fat blend, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, provides the majority of the nonprotein calories. These features minimize glycemic response, making it desirable as a supplemental or total enteral feeding for patients with abnormal glucose tolerance. The formulation includes soy fiber to help maintain normal bowel function.
